Berry Good Autumn

The storm has passed us by! The colorful foliage is still in tact!

Time to put away the emergency kits, grab your LL Bean hiking boots and camera, and join the Leaf Peepers headed for the National Park . Another beautiful day in paradise!
Let me know if you want to come to MDI for Columbus Day weekend.
There are still some cottages available...I'll save a spot for you.

Better Hurry. The Storm is Brewing

Hurricane Kyle is headed for the Maine Coast. Time to fill the water jugs, locate the radio, flashlights, candles and matches, fill the kerosene lamps and load the wood stove. Thank you, Cindy, for the blog posting offering great suggestions for a home emergency supply kit. ( I can just remember where I put the kit! )

Thanks, Gail ,for the Acadia National Park Ocean Drive Photo

Red Tea and Roses

Walking to the Village Post Office this past week, I noticed the abundance of rose hips on the Rugosa bushes that line the sidewalks. Ever wonder how to make rose hip tea? I asked several of neighbors if they knew how to do it.... and no one seemed to know the process. I couldn't imagine that it was too complicated. I promised them that I would do a Google search and share the recipe. Now,...if I only owned that row of bushes that so regally landscapes my neighbor's yard!

Last night was the perfect opportunity to enjoy
the sunset at Bass Harbor Light

And a special thanks to GrampE Bob for the photo and to local artist, Gail Ribas, for capturing the beauty.

(Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks)?
Or teach a NEW puppy, OLD tricks. (WSYCTANPOTRX?)

When I was a little girl, I thought that every family kept a bag of clothes in their freezer. I assumed that everyone’s Mom froze their ironing pile until they were ‘in the mood’ ! …My mother used to hang clothes outside on the line to dry. She said that she enjoyed the physical exercise of lugging the basket into the yard...bending over to pick up items...then reaching up to use the clothes pins to attach them to the line. There was even a method to that madness...All of my dad's shirts were hung side be side, and pinned by the shirt tails. When the shirts were still slightly damp, she used to fold them and put them in a bag in the freezer. Then when the mood struck her... (if I remember correctly it was during a 'full moon alert'... ) she would iron the frosty shirts ! Guess that was her version of ‘steam’ ironing…no need to 'sprinkle each item'...…and she could take on that project whenever there was a full moon…(or whatever else prompted her to want to tackle that frosty pile!)…
I miss you, Mom (Your memory lives on!...'I'm dancing as fast as I can' :)

September Sunsets

A few incredible September Sunsets on Mt.Desert Island.. and before we know it, it's Saturday morning again! ...Time to head to downtown Somesville Maine. I wonder what's going on at the local Library this AM? Thank you , Gail , for capturing the magic of Acadia in your paintings. (The bench was placed on the lawn in memory of my friend, Elaine Reddish. She loved a 'good read'!)

If you are strolling thru the village this AM, stop by Realtor GramEpat's place to say Hi. The welcome mat is always out!

Saturday morning in Downtown Somesville Maine

...Another Saturday morning in our sleepy little village. Pretty soon our Library will be open for business .
(I saw techies with raincoats and umbrellas ...sitting on the benches on the lawn.. tapping into the free wireless connection that is offered 24/7) ...The antique shop down the street is overflowing with tourists .

I noticed 2 huge tour buses parked out front of the quaint store with many people departing...sporting cameras and umbrellas...ready for their photo ops .

I suspect they have no idea how incredibly beautiful it is behind the store...the babbling brook, ..the recently reconstructed dams for the fishways...and the quaint cemetery... It's one of our best kept secrets!

...The "Port in a Storm' book store will be busy this AM...Nothing like a rainy day and a book signing event to draw a crowd....(Thank you, Jan, for all the events that you have hosted this summer!)....

The little museum isn't too lively yet this AM..I think our Saturday morning volunteer may be 'sleeping in'...Can't blame her for that...It's a cozy morning...Just a quiet drizzle with an occasional 'whoop de do' from the loons and a few ducks quacking . (FYI: In the Somesville Historical Museum, there are "Find the Object" quizzes for children..and adult visitors are challenged to identify 'now-mysterious' objects that would have been commonly used in homes and workplaces in the good 'ol days).

A few osprey and seagulls are swooping around in Somes Harbor).
Must be 'good fishin' this AM.

The beautiful gardens at the Historical Society building are in full bloom and waiting to be photographed!...Maybe a few brave souls will venture up the street and walk down to the village landing at the harbor on Somes Sound...Who knows, on their way back up the hill, they may even stop by my office (located across from the entrance to the landing) for a visit.

At GramEpat's place, if my car is in the yard, the welcome mat is always out.

Let me know how I can help you find 'Your Piece of Maine'

Why Wonder

I miss Kermit !
"Why were there so many songs about rainbows
and what's on the other side?"

("it could make you wonder why, but why wonder?")
"Who said that every wish would be heard and answered when wished on the morning star?"
"What's so amazing that keeps us stargazing...and what do we think we might see?
"Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,..... the lovers, the dreamers, and me!
